WHAT ARE DROP SETS?⠀

A drop set is simply hitting several sets of one single exercise back to back with no rest between while lowering or “dropping” the weight each consecutive set. After you can no longer perform any reps of each set having fatigued the muscle at that weight, you then immediately drop the weight down and perform another set. A drop set generally involves 3 sets coining the term you hear in the gym “triple drop”.⠀

With my training philosophy I ALWAYS recommend changing things up in your workouts. This is another excellent way to hit the muscle different and grow as well as overcome plateaus. Also, the pump from drop sets is second to none from forcing all the blood into the muscle each set. Drop sets can be performed with barbells, dumbbells, and machines/cables. Above I am performing a “stripping method” of drop sets simply stripping plates off lowering the weight each set to hit more reps. Do not confuse “drop sets” with “supersets”, another great training technique. With drop sets you are using one single exercise for consecutive sets whereas with supersets you are performing several exercises back to back no rest.⠀
